In Treno Si Gira

Overview

Ferrovie dello Stato

In treno si gira (In the train, you get around/shoot the film) Trains and railway stations, departures and arrivals, the people, the faces, the voices, and all the emotions of travel: the cinema has provided us with an extraordinarily rich documentation of it all. The films of Totò, Sordi, Manfredi, Benigni and Villaggio, Troisi and Fabrizi, arouse an abundance of memories triggered by works with a host of different intentions from many different times. “In Treno si gira”, a film produced by Errepi Comunicazione for the Italian National Railways, came from the idea of splicing together footage from dozens of our most cherished films all with the same common denominator: the journey by train, with every possible artistic variation possible for the precise objective of juxtaposing images to obtain a surprising effect. The same formula has been used successfully for years by the popular Italian tv show “Blob” (a collage of images taken from the day’s tv programs) which really does nothing more than what every tv viewer does every day: channel surfing. Train travel suits this play of associations perfectly: the train and the train station as the place where different people meet, the train as the inexhaustible source of emotional situations and stories of every kind.
